Four years' jail for killing cousin lover

Posted July 25, 2008 14:12:00

A 37-year-old woman has been sentenced to at least four years in jail for the manslaughter of her 22-year-old cousin, with whom she was in a sexual relationship.

Sadatia Ferguson stabbed Tae Simon at their home in Forster on the New South Wales mid-north coast in 2006.

In sentencing, Justice Graham Barr told the Supreme Court the pair had an unhappy relationship and Mr Simon physically abused Ferguson and enjoyed humiliating her.

The court heard Mr Simon encouraged Ferguson to take drugs and taught her how to inject herself with amphetamines.

Justice Barr said Mr Simon's abusive behaviour was provocative and led Ferguson to lose control of herself.

She will be eligible for parole in 2010.
