IRC asked to stop prosecutors' action

Posted July 25, 2008 15:01:00

New South Wales Police will seek an order to stop their prosecutors from stepping up industrial action in a hearing about to begin in the state's Industrial Relations Commission.

Police prosecutors have been refusing to do overtime for about three weeks as they push their case for more staff.

They planned to meet next week to decide whether to strike or increase the action in another way.

Police Association president Bob Pritchard says management is clearly worried about that.

"There's no doubt [that they are worried] but they should be putting their minds to fixing the problem rather than stopping us from raising the problem," he said.

"We're around 30 prosecutors short to do the job throughout NSW.

"It's been short for a number of years. The problems have been raised time and time again and NSW Police have not done anything about it."
