'No interest' in Iemma's high-profile media advisers

Posted July 25, 2008 16:00:00

New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma has defended appointing two new senior advisers to his office.

The Nine Network's state political reporter, Adam Walters, and the network's former news director, John Choueifate, were recruited to help develop policy and coordinate communications earlier this week.

NSW Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell has criticised the appointments, saying the State Government has found money for additional spin doctors but not for front-line workers.

Mr Iemma says the hiring of staff by the Government is not something that will concern the public.

"Changes in my office or any other office are of no relevance or interest to the people of this state, [including] the retirement or resignation of media officers and other policy advisers.

"Mr O'Farrell changed his chief of staff during the week. That didn't seem to cause any interest, as it should."
