Truck drivers already assisted by fuel levies: Albanese

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese has stopped short of supporting a push by truck drivers for a national fuel levy.
The Transport Workers Union wants drivers to get an extra 4 to 7 per cent on their rates to recover costs from rising oil prices.
The Government has today launched an inquiry into whether drivers are being forced into unsafe practices because of the way they are paid.
Mr Albanese says drivers are already assisted by reduced fuel levies.
"Truck drivers don't pay the same amount in fuel levies that ordinary commuters do," he said.
"Commuters pay 38 cents.
"Truck drivers have an arrangement of rebates where at the moment they're paying 19.6."
