Council yet to confirm water storage funds

Posted July 28, 2008 11:19:00

An extraordinary meeting of Nambucca Shire Council last week has heard a progress report on its $50 million off-river water storage facility.

The council also accepted three tenders for pre-construction design works, worth more than $3 million.

General manager Michael Coulter says vital government funding for the project is still to be confirmed.

He says concept design and environmental assessment work is underway, with a construction start date set down for 2010.

"We're going through a process at the moment of speaking to property owners affected by the off-river water storage and also by the likelihood of an expanded borefield next to the river at Bowraville," he said.

"There's also investigation in relation to the impact of the borefield on the local aquifer."
