Brisbane nurse jailed for raping patient

Posted July 28, 2008 18:02:00

The Supreme Court in Brisbane has heard a woman became suicidal after she went to a medical centre to seek treatment for a migraine and was raped by a registered nurse.

The Court heard the 27-year-old woman went to the Beenleigh medical centre last year where she was taken to a cubicle and seen by a doctor.

A short time later registered nurse Nicholas Allan Carroll injected the woman with morphine and forced her to perform a sex act.

Carroll's lawyer Wayne Tolton told the court his client may have been in the grip of a bipolar mania, which made him believe he could do anything.

The court heard the attack had been shattering for Carroll's victim, who had become suicidal and had engaged in self harm.

Justice John Byrne jailed Carroll for five years with a parole eligibility date in 2010.
