Country Energy works to restore Woolgoolga power

Posted July 29, 2008 12:00:00

Power is expected to be restored to 6,000 homes in the Woolgoolga area this morning.

Residents as far north as Wooli, Red Rock and Corindi have been without power since early this morning.

Country Energy regional general manager Andrew Latta says it is likely that a fire, started when high voltage lines came down, is the cause of the blackout.

"We believe that we've had one of the lines come down on a cross up there on the 66 kilovolt line," he said.

"That's actually caused a fire to that line. So as you say, we've impacted around 6,000 customers at this stage.

"It appears that there is an issue with some of the electrical components on that line that have caused the line to come down, but at this stage it's difficult to say what has actually caused it."
