Council honours retiring worker

Posted July 30, 2008 07:23:00

The Upper Hunter Shire Council last night paid tribute to one of its longest serving employees, who is retiring after 35 years of service at the council.

John Driscoll joined the council in March 1973 and has worked as a labourer in Aberdeen, as well as being involved in community groups.

He says he loved his work, which included town and grounds maintenance and overseeing the Aberdeen waste water treatment plant.

"It's sort of a challenge and I could do it easy. I always worked on my own, that's another thing ... and I also didn't have to be told every day what to do, because I've always just had to work things out in the past, what to do, and that's how I wanted to work," he said.
