Reds stalwart Roe retires

Posted July 30, 2008 18:03:00

A shoulder injury has forced Queensland Reds forward John Roe to announce his retirement.

Roe had a shoulder reconstruction in the 2007 off-season and needed another operation during this year's Super 14 season.

He has told his team-mates that his shoulder is not responding well to treatment and he does not want to risk it during another Super 14 campaign.

The 31-year-old captained the Reds for more than two seasons and played 19 tests.

Roe played more than 100 games for Queensland.
