Former immigration minister Kevin Andrews says he did not receive any advice from the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) about the Indian doctor Mohamed Haneef.

ASIO's submission to the inquiry into Dr Haneef's case says it repeatedly told the Government and other agencies that the Gold Coast-based doctor was not a threat to national security.

Dr Haneef was charged with supporting a terrorism plot in the UK, but the case against him collapsed and retired Supreme Court Justice John Clarke QC is now investigating the handling of his case.

Mr Andrews says when he was in office, he was not aware of ASIO's assessments.

"I wasn't advised by ASIO, and the first I knew of it was when ASIO made their submission to the inquiry," he said.
