Meeting addresses Cloncurry water woes

Posted August 6, 2008 08:20:00

The Cloncurry Shire Council and Queensland Government agencies have met to discuss the north-west town's dwindling water supplies.

Water Minister Craig Wallace says the meeting was constructive and useful.

He says Government agencies will continue to work closely with the council to find the best options that deliver safe and sustainable water supplies for Cloncurry.

The town could run out of drinking water in 10 weeks.

However, the State Government says it will not allow that to happen.

Last week it said Cloncurry residents use more than 700 litres of water per person per day and that the high usage had contributed significantly to the water shortage situation.

The Government says it will make funding available should the water supply reach a critical level.
