Green light for Emerald shopping complex

The Central Highlands Regional Council has approved a new $35 million shopping centre at Emerald.
The new complex will include a discount department store chain and a second Emerald outlet for a national supermarket chain.
Acting Mayor Paul Bell says the complex will generate 500 jobs and will be built on the eastern side of the town, so people will not have to cross the river to shop.
"During the recent flood event we found that any natural or man-made disasters that could happen where you actually split the town, if we lose a bridge or we lose access ... were lost to access to commercial facilities," he said.
