A central Queensland woman has been charged with assault after she allegedly slapped and kicked a police officer in Gladstone overnight.

Police say the 24-year-old, from Mount Larcom, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.124 when she was breath tested on the Dawson Highway at New Auckland about 1:30am AEST.

She allegedly attacked the policewoman when she was being taken to a patrol car.

She has been charged with serious assault on police, obstructing police, drink-driving and driving unlicensed and unregistered.

The woman is due to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court later this month.
