CBD surveillance cameras help police

Posted August 7, 2008 08:45:00

Surveillance cameras will be operating in central Mildura from today.

The network of 20 cameras was installed with an emphasis on monitoring prominent areas, including around nightclubs and Langtree Mall.

Police say the cameras will be monitored by council staff during peak periods.

However, Inspector Paul Naylor says even when they are not being watched, the cameras will record constantly and still help police.

"It gives us the ability to look further into alleged offences in the CBD area and it is certainly something we have been waiting for for some time," he said.
