South Sydney have signed Panthers full-back Rhys Wesser on a two-year deal beginning next season.

The 29-year-old veteran will add some experience to the Rabbitohs' pool of young talent, especially in the backline.

It is believed South Sydney will take over the final year of Wesser's contract with the Panthers.

The deal is reportedly worth $200,000 a season.

Wesser, who has played 172 games for Penrith, said he was looking forward to the prospect of joining the up-and-comers at Redfern.

"I've been watching them for the last couple of years and I think it is a very promising club with a lot of talented young players coming through," Wesser said on the Rabbitohs website.

"I want to be part of something great at the club and I will do everything I can to help Souths be a success."

Coach Jason Taylor hinted the inclusion of Wesser could ease the club's problems in the number one.

"Wesser is a quality player in all facets of full-back play and it's really exciting to have him join us next season," Taylor said.

"He's an enthusiastic player and I think he will fit in perfectly with the young backs we've got already.

"Our recruitment has targeted some experienced outside backs and he will do the job for us along with Colin Best next year."
