Australian golfer Adam Scott says he is under prepared for the year's final major the US PGA Championship starting tonight in Michigan.

Scott was ill last week and says it has affected his practice schedule.

He says he is feeling well now but he would have liked a better preparation.

"The course is hard and I'm feeling a bit scratchy. I'm not feeling 100 per cent confident, just a little bit out of rhythm," he said.

"It's just a matter of getting a good solid start and then just hanging around for the rest of the week and hopefully find the rhythm throughout the week and keep myself in the hunt."

In contrast, fellow Aussie Peter Lonard says he is hoping to carry his good recent form to Michigan.

Lonard came equal sixth in the World Golf Championships event in Ohio last weekend.

He says he is hitting the ball well, which will be important on the tricky Oakland Hills course.

"I think all the majors are pretty much the same, if you hit it straight you can do all right, if you hit it crooked you're in deep trouble," he said.

"So it's taxing on your brain mentally and you got to be fresh."

"After a long week last week, I played nine holes yesterday and nine holes today just working on my short game a bit and just looking forward to it starting."
