No need for Mackay hospital hearing: Commission

The Health Quality Complaints Commission (HQCC) says there is no need for a public hearing into health services at the Mackay Base Hospital in north Queensland.
Up to 1,000 operations conducted by Dr Abdulla Khalafalla at several state hospitals are being audited by Queensland Health after it was revealed he used potentially deadly practices.
HQCC executive director Michael Ward visited hospital staff yesterday and says its two-year investigation will bring adequate changes to the industry.
"I don't think it's necessary to go beyond what we have already done," he said.
"This has taken two years for us to get this far and the longer it goes or having more public inquiries, I don't think would add anything to what we already know."
