Mermaid Beach traffic woes continue

Posted August 7, 2008 13:09:00

Drivers sick of delays on the Mermaid Beach stretch of the Gold Coast Highway will have to wait a few more weeks for the congestion to ease.

Area councillor Eddy Sarroff says road widening is necessary for a proposed rapid transit system.

He says work should be finished by the end of this month.

"We are at the stage where the asphalt is being laid this week, the line marking will follow, planting in the medium strip and then immediately after that the coordination of traffic signals," he said.

"After that we will see the traffic flow smoothly along the highway."
