Springborg admits to far north challenge

Posted August 7, 2008 14:25:00

The State Opposition Leader admits the party will find it challenging to attract votes in far north Queensland, but the newly created Liberal-National Party (LNP) will provide a better alternative.

Lawrence Springborg is in Cairns for the first time since the Liberals and Nationals merged.

He says the former far northern federal MP Warren Entsch will be the party's spokesman before candidates are picked in the next couple of months.

"Well Mr Entsch of course has a very, very noteworthy profile. He was an absolutely fantastic member for Leichhardt until his retirement," he said.

"He certainly has the passion, has the enthusiasm, has in his very heart the best interests for the people for far north Queensland and I can't think of a better advocate for the LNP until we select our candidates."
