Cannabis trafficker jailed

Posted August 7, 2008 16:32:00

A southern Tasmanian man has been jailed for nine months for trafficking cannabis he grew in a shed.

Police found more than 100 cannabis plants when they searched the shed at Campania earlier this year.

A Hobart Criminal Court jury found 56 year old Leon Francis Wright guilty of trafficking cannabis between 2004 and 2008.

The jury rejected Wright's argument that the drug was for personal use.

In sentencing today, Justice Shan Tennant said the scale of the growing operation indicated it was too large to be a casual hobby.

The judge suspended three months of the nine month jail term.
