Queensland police say a body found in the Gold Coast hinterland in south-east Queensland is missing bushwalker Robert Young.

The 65-year-old man from Bli Bli on Qld's Sunshine Coast, became separated from a group he was walking with in the Lamington National Park on Saturday afternoon.

Police and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers searched a wide area of the park and Army personnel joined the effort today.

Another bushwalker reported seeing a body on Wednesday night and a helicopter winched police and a paramedic into the area on Thursday morning.

They hiked through the rugged terrain to the area where the body was found.

Police say it appears Mr Young fell while attempting to climb a ridge.

Mr Young's brother Peter has thanked searchers for their efforts.

"We wish we had a better outcome but at least we have one now and we can go home and grieve by ourselves," he said.
