Council considers ways to improve city intersection safety

Brisbane City Council officials have agreed to look at ways of improving safety at a busy inner city intersection.
There have been concerns about the crossing at Queen Street, Wharf Street and Eagle Street, after 19 people were hit by cars over the past six years.
Deputy Mayor Graham Quirk says a meeting today agreed to a number of measures.
"What we will be doing is to add audio devices to the crossing, we will be ramping up warning signs to the pedestrians and it will be aimed at pedestrians being conscious of that crossing," he said.
"There is a limit to what council can do in an engineering sense."
Councillor Quirk says 15 of the 19 accidents involved people crossing against the 'don't walk' sign.
