Man killed in crash

Posted August 8, 2008 08:13:00

Police in Victoria are trying to work out what caused a fatal crash at Laverton in Melbourne's west last night.

A man was killed and a woman critically injured when their car hit a tree in Maher Road shortly before 8.00pm.

Police in an unmarked car had earlier tried to talk to the driver at Laverton Railway Station and were trying to stop the car when it crashed.

Sergeant Bob Stanwick says police were not involved in a pursuit.

"The police vehicle was quite some distance behind, they were observing the vehicle and when they activated their blue lights the vehicle had already collided into the tree," he said.
