The New South Wales Local Government Minister, Paul Lynch, saw the newly renamed Wilcannia Cross Roads Project this week.
The Minister was hosted by the Central Darling Shire Council and the Murdi Paaki Regional Enterprise Corporation.
Previously known as the Tourism Project, it lost almost $2 million in funding when the Federal Government scrapped the Sustainable Regions Program.
The Central Darling Shire Council's general manager, Tim Hazel, says the project involves refurbishing the Wilcannia post office, upgrading the caravan park and formalising cultural trails around the town.
Mr Hazel says the council was able to tell the Minister of its disappointment at losing the funding.
"We also took the opportunity to outline to him the number of jobs that project was likely to generate for the Wilcannia township and put forward that we're looking to re-badge the project," he said.
"We're looking for some contributions from the State Government and also the Federal Government so we can get the program up and running again."
