The Planning and Infrastructure Minister has rejected accusations the Western Australian Government is proceeding with the Oakajee Port project without adequate environmental approvals.

The WA Greens this week accused the Government of illegally extending approvals, dating from 1998, that were supposed to expire in February this year.

Alannah MacTiernan has confirmed the Government will not seek fresh assessments for the sections of the project's design which have remained unchanged over the 10 years.

Ms MacTiernan says the public can have confidence the Environmental Protection Authority would not have approved the extensions if the environmental impact was not minimal.

"To the extent that the work on the port covers the same area, then there is a pre-existing approval. However, there are substantial variations in the design that is now going to be submitted for fresh approval," she said.
