Priestley to run for Orange City Council

Posted August 8, 2008 13:16:00

The independent candidate for the Calare electorate at last year's federal election, Gavin Priestley, has confirmed he will run next month for a position on the Orange City Council.

Mr Priestley was the former Telstra CountryWide general manager for the western region.

He says he will run again as an independent candidate in the hope of securing a spot on the local council come election day.

"I think it's going to be a challenge but I also feel that the community would like to see more balance in local government and I have had a lot of people express to me a concern that it is becoming an extension of party politics," he said.

Nominations for the elections close next Wednesday.
