Public comment sought on proposed bike ban on Bourke footpaths

The Bourke Shire Council is seeking community feedback on its plan to ban bicycle riders from footpaths.
The council has endorsed a draft policy which has been placed on public exhibition for the next four weeks.
The shire plans to put up signs in the local business zone to assist police with enforcement.
Council general manager Geoff Wise says it is also working with police to establish a pilot program to take bikes off repeat offenders.
"It will be possible for council to give special authorisation to council officers as well and provision for things such as confiscation of the pushbike and so very quickly if someone has their pushbike confiscated that will be a fairly effective enforcement," he said.
