Pie eating drunk crashes car

Posted August 8, 2008 14:20:00

Northern Territory Police say a drunk-driver who crashed into a car yard in Darwin overnight was speeding and eating a pie.

At 2am, the 25-year-old man was driving out of the city over the Daly Street Bridge when he lost control of his car, police say.

The man's car was written off, and several cars at the car yard were damaged.

Police say the man recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.237.

Police deny road conditions played a part in the accident, despite a number of crashes at the spot in recent years.

A short time later, a 22-year-old man who lost control of his car on McMinn Street recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.125.

And police are also asking people to keep a lookout for a 73-year-old man who has not been seen since yesterday morning.

John Sullivan may be on his way to Katherine to visit relatives, driving a brown and white van with a for sale sign.

Police say he has a condition that requires medication every day and they are concerned for his safety.
