Premier David Bartlett has acknowledged his workload is unsustainable and he will need help to manage the portfolios of Paula Wriedt, who is recovering from a suicide attempt.

Mr Bartlett took over Ms Wriedt's Economic Development and Tourism portfolios on Monday, when she was taken to hospital.

He says Ms Wriedt is in no state to be making decisions about her future and he will give her time and space to make an informed choice.

Mr Bartlett will discuss how to allocate Ms Wriedt's portfolios with his Cabinet colleagues on Monday and is expected to hand some of them to Environment Minister Michelle O'Byrne, who only has the one portfolio.

"It's not sustainable for me to have Education, Economic Development, Tourism and Workplace Relations and Planning so therefore I would have to look to other Ministers acting in some of those portfolios," he said.

"But it would be acting at this point in time."
