Premier dares unions to vote

Posted August 8, 2008 17:00:00

The Premier, David Bartlett, has dared unions to allow public servants a secret ballot on the government's pay offer.

Mr Bartlett believes most public servants want to accept the pay rise of between 20 to 29 percent over three and a half years.

Unions have rejected the offer and wide-ranging work bans have been in place since May.

Mr Bartlett says a secret ballot would end delays in delivering the wage increases.

"These pay rises were due to be delivered on the first of September and now are already a month late," he says.

"Therefore at the earliest now can they can be delivered on the 8th of October and every day that ticks past is a day that these public servants will not receive these pay rises."
