Hit-run accused verbally abused outside court

Posted August 8, 2008 17:09:00

A man accused of running over and killing a Palmerston teenager has been verbally abused outside the Darwin Magistrates Court by friends of the victim.

The man made a brief appearance in court today, charged with the hit-and-run death in May this year.

Outside court, he was yelled at by a woman carrying a poster of the victim, and by a boy wearing a t-shirt with the victim's face printed on it.

A committal hearing with about 120 prosecution witnesses is expected to start in November.

Police release name of Alice Springs Simpson

Alice Springs Police have released the name of a man whose body was found in a creek bed earlier this week.

The body of 37-year-old Robert Wayne Simpson was found in scrub about 500 metres from his Burke Street home on Monday.

The man's housemate reported Mr Simpson missing last Monday morning after he failed to return from a walk on Sunday.

A police spokesman says an autopsy was conducted this morning to determine the cause of death, and police are preparing a file for the coroner.
