An Adelaide court has heard that property developer Cathy Jayne Pearce is too sick to attend court.

Law firm Norman Waterhouse is suing Ms Pearce for more than $40,000 in unpaid fees and costs.

Ms Pearce has not attended the last three hearings and the Adelaide Magistrates Court was today told she is too sick to travel from Queensland.

Her lawyer did not provide details of her illness.

Magistrate Terence Forest adjourned the case until next week, but warned it will be difficult not to award judgment to Norman Waterhouse if she does not attend.
