Minister's visit focuses on affordable housing, homelessness

Affordable housing and homelessness will be the key issues discussed during a visit to the Hunter today by federal Housing Minister Tanya Plibersek.
Ms Plibersek will attend an affordable housing for seniors community forum in the Charlton electorate this morning.
She will also visit the women's refuge Carrie's Place at Maitland and address a homeless forum tonight.
Ms Plibersek says it is clear many older Australians are concerned about how they can afford their housing costs.
"It's very hard at the moment to find affordable rental properties and if you are struggling on the pension that's even harder," she said.
"Of course there are many older Australians who are worried about how they are going to make ends meet either in their rental accommodation or how they are going to pay the bills on the family home.
"We will be talking to a number of older people in this electorate about a housing strategy for older Australians."
