ABC boss says no plan for ads

Posted August 11, 2008 11:11:00

The managing director of the ABC, Mark Scott, has told the New South Wales branch of the Friends of the ABC conference in Wollongong that the Federal Government does not want any advertising on the national broadcaster.

The conference, on the New South Wales south coast, had expressed concerns that the ABC's increased expansion into digital media formats would leave it open to increased commercialisation.

Mr Scott says neither the ABC nor the Government have plans to commercialise the ABC.

"We certainly have no plans for ABC radio and television, there's no advertising on [the website], we're not proposing it, the Government doesn't want it, so that's not going to happen," he said.

"That means it's a great public asset."
