Push for better wages for TAFE teachers

Posted August 11, 2008 13:19:00

The Education Union is stepping up its campaign for better wages for Victoria's TAFE teachers.

The union is launching two new television advertisements in support of its push for pay rises and solutions to address teacher shortages.

The state's 13,000 TAFE teachers plan to take industrial action this month.

Union spokeswoman, Mary Bluett, says they want to put pressure on TAFE employers and the State Government.

"Tafe teachers in Victoria now receive 13,000 less than their Victorian colleagues," she said.

"And the ads are highlighting the difficulties, particularly in attracting trade teachers into TAFE when they're paid so poorly."
