Police dog quells Beaconsfield disturbance

Posted August 12, 2008 10:23:00

The Police Dog Squad was called to a disturbance at a house in Beaconsfield early this morning, where a man was smashing windows and threatening the residents.

Police responded the call about 1am after residents complained a man had used rocks and a dumb bell to smash windows at the Newmarket Street residence.

When police arrived a man fled over the back fence and a police handler and a dog were brought in to search bushland at the back of the house.

Police Dog Lou followed a scent along a bush track until a man jumped out of bushes about 50-metres away.

The officer challenged the man to stop but he continued to run.

Police Dog Lou was released and a 19-year-old man was apprehended.

A Beaconsfield man has been charged with damage and disorderly conduct and will appear in the Fremantle Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
