Community forum to oppose power privatisation push

Posted August 13, 2008 09:03:00

The Newcastle Trades Hall Council is ramping up its campaign against electricity privatisation with a community forum in the city tonight.

The forum will be addressed by former State Opposition leader Peter Debnam and Greens' MLC John Kaye.

The council's Gary Kennedy says 85 per cent of the community is opposed to the New South Wales Government's plan and the fight is not over yet.

"We'll have a little slideshow to tell people about what they can do if they want to take the campaign a bit further in their own area and to hear the speakers, but it's basically to let the community know where this campaign is at," he said.

"It's gone a little bit quiet. People think it's finished, but it's way from finished and we're going to continue to battle on."
