Gold Coast Show location in doubt

Posted August 13, 2008 10:25:00

Next week's Gold Coast Show may be one of the last to be held at Parklands.

The Gold Coast Show has been at Parklands for the past 19 years, but its future at the site is now in doubt.

The show society has been told the soon to be built university hospital will squeeze it out.

Show manager Doug Reiser says it is already looking at alternative sites at Robina, Merrimac, Nerang and Mudgeeraba.

He says the hospital will affect more than the show.

"The future of Parklands as a venue for harness racing and the show and the Big Day Out, there's a limited life in that," he said.

The show society says it has been talking to the Queensland Government and the Gold Coast council about the move, which could take place in the next five years.
