Tourism rescue plan will 'polish up Sydney'

Posted August 13, 2008 15:32:00

The New South Wales Government is meeting with industry leaders today to finalise a rescue strategy for the state's tourism industry.

The Government allocated $40 million to improve tourism in the state, after the scathing O'Neill review which found Sydney was rapidly losing visitors to Victoria and Queensland.

The final strategy will be put to cabinet in September.

Tourism Minister Matt Brown says there will be a renewed focus on Sydney.

"One big, main point is to have a bigger, sharper focus on Sydney," he said.

"Sydney really is the jewel in the crown, we need to polish up Sydney somewhat - give it a bit more energy."
