Australia's women's water polo team let in a goal in the final 20 seconds of the match to draw 7-7 with world champions Hungary at the Yingdong Natatorium on Wednesday.

The Stingers hit the lead 7-6 late in the game and had possession of the ball with 24 seconds remaining but no time left on the shot clock.

They declined to have another shot on goal and handed over possession to the opposition to avoid a counter-attack.

But the Hungarians worked their way up the pool and slotted a goal with four seconds remaining.

Australia opened their campaign with an 8-6 win over Greece, and next take on the Dutch side on Friday.
