Tourism group backs Qantas plans

Posted August 14, 2008 10:00:00

The Fraser Coast's tourism organisation says two Qantas announcements will provide a welcome boost for one of the region's most important industries.

The national carrier will upgrade the planes used on three Brisbane to Hervey Bay flights, bringing an extra 42 seats into the region per week.

And Hervey Bay will now be included as a possible stopover in a flight package marketed to international tourists.

Damien Massingham, the manager of Fraser Coast South Burnett Tourism, says the announcements will build on strong bookings early for the whale watch season.

"Some airlines are actually cutting flights, so this is a great show of confidence that the airlines have in the Fraser Coast region," he said.

"Virgin Blue and Jetstar have retained their flights and now we have QantasLink actually upgrading a number of their services, so it shows that the Fraser Coast tourism industry is very strong."
