Mayor's visit may bring Singapore trade opportunities

Posted August 14, 2008 11:27:00

The Mayor of Rockhampton says there could be some trade opportunities arising from his visit to Singapore.

Brad Carter says the Singapore Government expressed interest in continuing military exercises at Shoalwater Bay beyond the agreement which comes up for renewal next year.

Councillor Carter says some Singapore-based companies are considering options in central Queensland.

"I did meet representatives from Singapore Food Industries. They're very keen to look at the opportunities of intensive agriculture," he said.

"This region has some wonderful opportunities, once we finalise the development of our water storage facilities.

"They're also interested in possibly looking at tourism investment opportunities and mining investment and resource industry investment opportunities."
