Australia's men's table tennis side suffered its third defeat of the Olympics tournament on Thursday evening, going down 3-0 to Greece.

Kyle Davis was hammered 3-0 in the opening match of the tie 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 to Kalinikos Kreanga.

William Henzell then took on Panagiotis Gionis in the second match but also lost in consecutive games 11-7, 11-8, 11-8.

Henzell then returned to the PKU Gymnasium to partner David Zalcberg in the doubles match but the Australians were overcome 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 by Gionis and Ntaniel Tsiokas.

Meanwhile in the women's draw, Australia was tamed 3-0 by Group D rivals Spain.

Jian Fang Lay lost 11-8, 12-10, 11-4 in the opening match, while Miao Miao managed to wrest a set from Galia Dvorak before losing the second match 3-1.

Miao was heading for a 3-0 loss after conceding the opening two games, but pulled herself back into the contest with an impressive 11-5 third game.

Dvorak bounced back quickly to put the contest to bed though with a strong 11-4 win in the final game.

Dvorak returned to partner Fang Zhu in the doubles against Miao and Stephanie Xu Sang, the Spaniards crushing their Australian counterparts 13-11, 13-8, 13-7.
