Albury flour mill to close doors

Posted August 15, 2008 10:39:00

A historic flour mill in Albury is closing and 25 workers will lose their jobs by the end of the year.

The Allied Mills site in Young Street will shut in December.

Albury Mayor Stuart Baker says staff have been offered work at another mill near Sydney.

However, councillor Baker says he hopes they can find work in the region.

"The worst thing for Albury is the job cuts. The future of that particular site, there's probably all sorts of possibilities that are a little bit exciting," he said.

"From Albury's point of view we'd just like the people that have jobs to either find them with the company if that's what they wish to do, or if they want to stay in this area we hope they can find alternative employment here."
