Committee approves plan to bury CO2 emissions

A federal parliamentary committee has approved a plan for carbon dioxide to be buried in the sea bed to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
It is believed if the law is enacted, it will be a world first.
The committee chairman, the ALP's Dick Adams, says he is encouraged by the evidence the committee heard.
But he says the committee recommended the Federal Government bear long-term responsibility if anything goes wrong.
"Well, the evidence we received was that the longer you go on with the storage and have the greenhouse gas stored, the risk is probably very, very, very low, but the risk of when you're injecting the CO2, is where you could run into more problems," he said.
