Master plan on drawing board for Brighton

Posted August 17, 2008 11:11:00

The Mayor of Brighton in Tasmania's south says the public will have a big say in the development of a master plan for the area.

A by-pass has been earmarked for Brighton, as well as a transport hub, comprising a road-rail interchange.

The Mayor, Tony Foster, says with such major developments in the wind, it's vital the area's future residential and business needs are properly thought through now.

He says public input is crucial.

"The people on the ground, the grassroots people, the people who've lived here for a long time, the people who've moved here to develop - very very important in developing a master plan," Councillor Foster said.

"It cannot be a top-down approach anymore. We have to do these things from the bottom up and that way we've got a great great opportunity to get it right, first off," he said.

Tenders for the development of the master plan close on Friday August the 29th.
