Crowe, Holmes a Court's pokie ban proposal rejected

Posted August 17, 2008 18:45:00

A proposal to ban poker machines at the South Sydney Leagues Club has been defeated at a meeting of its members.

The vast majority of those attending the club's annual general meeting at Redfern Town Hall have voted against the No Pokies proposal, accepting the argument that poker machines are necessary for the club to survive.

The Salvation Army had praised the plan when it was put forward by the club's co-owners Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court last September.
