2,000 experts talks world water supplies in Sweden

Posted August 17, 2008 20:00:00

More than 2,000 experts have gathered in the Swedish capital Stockholm to discuss how to ensure that the world has adequate supplies of water in the future.

The conference which opens to coincide with World Water Week will look at issues including climate change, water scarcity and poor sanitation.

It may not be glamorous or indeed cutting edge, but according to the experts meeting in Stockholm, sanitation is one of the most important issues facing the world.

The organisers of this meeting say that lack of adequate sanitation is a global scandal that costs the lives of 1.4 million children every year.

Investing in this area say scientists is the most cost effective health intervention the world can make.
