Backing sought for solar power station plan

Mudgee could house the state's first solar thermal power station if a proposal by local environmentalists gets backing by a major energy company.
The Mudgee District Environment Group says Epuron energy is looking at the station's feasibility.
The group's chairwoman, Bev Smiles, says today's arrival of the Climate Torch Relay in Mudgee is an opportunity to launch the proposal.
"We were considering a 20 megawatt power station, Epuron thinks there's a possibility of a 50 megawatt power station and that would generate enough electricity for all the houses from Mudgee to Coonabarabran," she said.
"[Epuron have] come up and had a look at the area that we've chosen as being suitable for this power station proposal, and they're continuing on to look at the feasibility of the project."
The relay highlights a push to halve Australia's greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
