Police consider winding down search

Posted August 18, 2008 10:09:00

Police are considering scaling back their investigation into the disappearance of a Burnie mother.

Helen Munnings was last seen on the Bass Highway at South Burnie on July 23.

She was dropped off near Australian Paper and said she was going to go for a walk along the beach next to the highway.

Detectives have been conducting a review of the disappearance, re-interviewing witnesses and searching previously unsearched areas around Burnie for evidence of Ms Munnings.

The 20-year-old's family believes she has been murdered, but Inspector Adrian Shadbolt says they are also looking at other reasons for her disappearance.

Inspector Shadbolt says they will consider reducing the number of officers working on the case over the next few weeks.
